Police Scotland is the newly established single police force responsible for upholding and enforcing the law and maintaining the peace across the nation. Comprising 14 local policing divisions, it is the second largest force in the UK.
Sector: Public Sector
Scope of works: Custom Police Lockers
Police officers today are issued with more equipment than ever before and it all needs to be stored correctly and safely.
Having successfully carried out previous works on behalf of the client, CSI (formerly ESE) was contracted to design a bespoke police locker to suit the evolving requirements of the Police Force.
CSI's solutions team began the project by conducting a detailed site audit of the equipment that the lockers intended to hold. This process identified that the bespoke lockers needed to accommodate the following equipment:
The project team held meetings with police officers, sergeants and inspectors to assess the best method of storing all of these items, including determining what needed to be visible from outside the lockers.
Working alongside the client, CSI developed a durable, high security ‘Copper Locker’ to suit all of their requirements. The Copper Locker is deeper and wider than standard lockers and has a heavy-duty hanging rail to comfortably accommodate body armour, Public Support Unit kit bags and equipment belts. A separate lockable compartment with vision panel to the front of the locker provides secure and safe storage for CS gas canisters and airwave radios.
Maintaining good housekeeping was an important concern for Police Scotland, CSI designed the lockers with sloping tops to prevent untidiness and fitted with vented doors to keep uniforms and changing rooms fresh.
In developing the Copper Locker, CSI (formerly ESE) worked in partnership with Police Scotland to achieve an innovative product that perfectly fits their needs, both for today and into the future. Most importantly, the bespoke locker offers far greater control over police equipment.
CSI helped the client to make better use of their existing space. Each police officer is now issued with his/her own locker, previously there were multiple storage solutions for all the different pieces of equipment. The new well-organised locker has improved housekeeping in changing rooms and led to quicker kit retrieval, saving valuable time and resources for the force.
The CSI Copper Locker™ is now used by many police constabularies and law enforcement agencies throughout the UK.
