White and Brown Salt - Essential Winter Maintenance Products

White and brown salt along with grit and sand are the key raw materials of winter maintenance so it is important to make sure you are well stocked up. We  also supply liquid based de-icers and a spraying unit which are considered now to be the most effective means of anti and de-icing along with the added bonus of being better for the environment. Choosing to whether use white salt , brown salt  or a liquid based de-icer usually come down to price but there are some other important considerations. 

Advantages of using White Salt for de-icing and anti-icing

White salt is best used when an area is to be kept clean and free of dirty salt residues, so best used when salting or gritting near to door ways. As it is more refined it is also more effective and faster at melting snow and ice than brown rock salt. White salt is supplied in 25kg bags with a minimum order quantity of 7 bags up to a full truck load which comprises of 1078 x 25kg bags.

Advantages of using Brown Rock Salt 

Brown rock or road salt is unrefined and much cheaper than white salt and is therefore the ideal choice for salting or gritting, roads, car parks, large areas of pavement and walkways cost effectively and particularly anywhere the immediate concern of  bringing in ‘dirty salt,  snow residues’ indoors is of less importance. Brown rock salt comes in both 15kg and 25 kg bags. 15kg bags of  have a minimum order quantity of 8 bags and 25kg bags a minimum order quantity of 7 bags. 

Advantages of  using Liquid Based De-icers

Liquid anti-icer and de-icer techniques are less harmful to the environment than traditional salting and gritting. They make much less mess than both salt and grit and the lasting effects on roads and pavements are greatly reduced.  As it is already in liquid form it is faster to take effect than both white and brown salt. It has the same advantage as white salt as being a clean anti or de-icing the agent, however the downside is it less cost effective.
