Fire Extinguishers - Carbon Dioxide

Carbon dioxide dispensing fire extinguisher for use on electrical fires and flammable liquids including petrol.
  • CO2 Fire Extinguisher kitemarked to BS EN 3
  • Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers work by starving a fire of oxygen and secondarily by removing the heat element of a fire wioth a cold discharge
  • For use on:
    • Electrical fires: short circuits, overloaded switchboards, faulty equipment and wiring
    • Flammable liquids: petrol, oil, paints etc. (though AFF Foam extinguishers are better suited to these types of fire)
  • Ineffective against:
    • Ordinary combustable fires: wood, paper, textiles, rubber, some plastics and other organic carbon based compounds
    • Flammable gases: butane, propane and petroleum gases
    • Cooking oil fires: cooking oil and fats
  • Caution is recommended when using a CO2 fire extinguisher - improper use can result in cold burns if skin comes into prolonged contact with the horn of the extinguisher - the user should avoid holding the extinguisher by the horn
  • CO2 fire extinguishers can also reduce the oxygen content in a room so care should be taken when using in a confined space
