Frequently Asked Questions related to Hydrosacks

How do HydroSacks® protect against flooding?

HydroSacks contain pulp and a super-absorbent polymer (SAP) that absorbs 15–20 litres of water when soaked for 2–3 minutes. This water crystallises inside, creating a dense, flexible barrier that retains water for up to 3 months.

How do I activate a HydroSack®?

Soak in a bucket or tub for 2–3 minutes for full activation. Alternatively, spray with a hose or pour water over them, which takes slightly longer.

Can I lay them down dry to be activated by floodwater?

This is not recommended. Dry Hydrosacks are lightweight and may move out of position. Floodwater activation can make them harder to handle and dispose of, and they may not swell fully for stacking.

How long can they be stored before use?

Over 5 years if kept dry in original packaging.

How do I dispose of HydroSacks® after flooding?

Split the outer bag and pour the contents into the ground. They will naturally degrade within weeks and pose no risk to the environment or wildlife.

What makes Hydrosacks a better choice for flood protection compared to traditional sandbags?

Unlike heavy, bulky sandbags, HydroSacks are lightweight and easy to store in bulk. They can be activated quickly, absorbing 15–20 litres to form a strong barrier that lasts up to 3 months. Sandbags can leak and often absorb contaminants such as sewage and toxins, requiring complex landfill disposal. HydroSacks remain clean and eco-friendly, making disposal simple whilst their contents can be safely emptied into soil without harming the environment.
